When it comes to perfect contrast, there’s nothing like a dark grey slate accent wall to give your pool some modern flair. Some homeowners add walls to their custom swimming pool designs, even when they functionally don’t need them to retain anything—purely aesthetic appeal walls. You’ll find plenty of examples online of homeowners using walls to do some pretty appealing stuff. More often than not, a homeowner won’t just opt to include a retaining wall to improve overall aesthetic appeal. The custom swimming pool designer usually has a design concept that requires an elevated top-level or tier. The higher ground allows many designers to install waterfalls, water walls, scuppers or spouts, sheer descents, and other design options.

The Retention Wall Overview – What is a Retaining Wall

A retaining wall is what its name implies, a wall specially designed to hold back earth and natural rock. Most backyards and outdoor areas where we build in-ground swimming pools are not level (flat). Southern, Nevada land is pretty flat, to begin with, so retaining walls aren’t usually required. As mentioned above, they are, however, pretty common and called for through the pool design. They often get added for specific water or level feature.

Here are some common topics about retention walls for custom swimming pools.

  • Retaining walls get implemented to hold earth (dirt or rock) in place.
  • Some land here in Las Vegas isn’t level, and some have substantial slopes or uneven surfaces that the pool builder has to contend with, and the retaining wall is just one of the tools in our arsenal.

  • The size and areas you’ll need a retaining wall for are dependent on how much earth you need to hold back. An engineer designs the retaining wall plans, and then Clarity Pool Service realizes those plans through construction.
  • Common retaining wall materials are poured-in-place Concrete, cinder blocks, concrete blocks (or reinforced cinder blocks with wet Concrete poured into cavities).
Dry stacked concrete blocks – using the dry concrete blocks to build a segmented wall. The solid dry concrete blocks are designed to lock together. It’s relatively easy to determine the difference between a segmented wall (which uses solid concrete blocks in a staggered pattern), opposed to a reinforced cinderblock wall, or poured in place concrete wall. Cinder block walls are often back-poured with wet Concrete. The cinder blocks are reinforced with steel rebar.
  • You can install stacked stone on the retention wall’s surface as an aesthetic option, or any other material that is appropriate and adheres onto the wall.
Don’t look at a retaining wall as an eyesore. A wall is used in ways that will not only compliment your yard but open up additional options where function and visuals features are concerned.
How the retaining wall gets constructed is determined by the Engineer, and quite possibly the swimming pool contractor.
  • Poured Concrete Walls are arguably more reliable than a Cinder Block wall design. Poured concrete walls have better lateral strength when compared to back-poured cinderblock walls. The stronger the wall, the more pressure it can withstand. A poured wall doesn’t have joints like a block wall, making it the preferred choice of pool contractors.
  • How much does that retention wall cost? Your cost is dependent on the size and scope of the wall. Basically, how tall (depends on how much earth needs gets retained) and the length or span of the wall impacts the overall cost of building a wall. That’s not including any features or decorative materials you want to use to finish the wall.
  • Retaining wall costs can typically range from $7K – $20K (costs associated with the wall are dependent on the choices you make with our Clarity Pool Service design consultant and the Engineer hired to plan & design the retaining wall.)

Swimming Pool Repair Las Vegas, NV

Swimming Pool Repair

When you are looking for swimming pool repair in Las Vegas, then look no further than Clarity Pool Service for your swimming pool repair needs.
Let’s face it, over time even the best swimming pools require maintenance and repair. Cold winter weather can wreak havoc on pool filtration systems and plumbing. Swimming pool decks fade, chip, and crack. Concrete and Gunite Swimming pool foundations wear down, pool tiles loosen and break, and pool owners pay extra money to keep older, worn down swimming pools in usable condition. Pools in disrepair can become utterly unusable if repairs go untouched for too long. Thankfully, the professionals at Clarity Pool Service can help.

Sometimes it can be difficult to know when an in-ground swimming pool needs repair. Physical issues such as cracked and broken pool decks, tiles, plaster, concrete, fiberglass, and exposed plumbing are easier to see than knowing when plaster or concrete is worn out and requires re-surfacing or renovation. Pools in disrepair can waste a lot of money, pool supplies, and time. Unexpected spikes in water and power bills can be a good indication of issues with the swimming pool. Calling an expert to inspect each part of an in-ground swimming pool system periodically can make the difference between a fun summer of swimming or continually struggling to keep a pool clean and usable.

Common Issues with Swimming Pools

Some of the more common problems that happen with an in-ground swimming pool include worn and broken pool hardscapes, coping, and pavers. Another item to look for is cracked and chipped concrete, gunite, or fiberglass that require professional resurfacing to repair. When pool filtration systems are not working correctly, maintaining proper chemical balance can be expensive and time-consuming. Again, having an expert in swimming pool construction and repair will save money, time, and ensure that your swimming pool is ready for fun.

Rockscape Swimming Pool Builder Tips

Custom Rockscape Swimming Pool Design - Clarity Pool Service of Las Vegas, Nevada

Any swimming pool builder worth their weight in salt will tell you that your swimming pool environment is just as important as the pool itself. How you choose to design the area around your pool can either make or break the cohesion and overall aesthetics of the swimming pools design. Rarely does a pool look gorgeous, when constructed and placed in the middle of a sea of Kool Deck concrete. Do yourself a favor, even if you have to finish building your pool in stages (that is if you can’t afford it all at once). Make plans to build your pool, and then complete the pool environment at a later date. That’s once your savings has had time to recuperate from the pool build. If you can do all at once, even better.

Your outdoor living area environment is where you’ll be spending the majority of your time when summer rolls around, you’ll swim a lot, but the area around the swimming pool is your place to barbecue, party, relax, and soak up the rays. You’ll be spending more time socializing around your pool, then actually swimming in it. Your outdoor living space is a significant part of your complete experience. How you design it is up to you.

Whether you choose a design that resembles a tropical oasis, desert island, a rockscape retreat, or modern style pool aesthetic, you’ll want to give the swimming pool surroundings & outdoor living area some special attention. We understand what it takes to create the ultimate outdoor living and entertaining space. A special place to make memories with your family and that select group of friends that teach their kids it’s never okay to pee in the pool. Clarity Pool Service is the premier swimming pool designer & contractor in the Southern Nevada area because we’re mindful of the intricate details that make up the overall project.

Redefining Rockscape Swimming Pools

Rockscape swimming pools, when executed correctly can be an impressive and attractive feature of your home or commercial property. Sometimes rockscape can be overdone though, a complete rockscape swimming pool is not ideal, there are a few design implementations that have done it tastefully. For the most part, we recommend staying away from doing all rockscape swimming pools, especially when using artificial stone (even though the artificial stone is almost always what the other guys use when they do full rockscape pools). The old saying “Sometimes less is more,” definitely is applicable when it comes to rockscape. A few well placed natural rock formations, stone boulders, or maybe even an authentic stone waterfall will make your rockscape pool feel just as natural as the real thing.

It comes down to your personal taste and preference. If you want to do a full natural rockscape pool design, it’s going to end up hitting you where it hurts, in your wallet. We can assure that when a real natural stone is used over a faux stone, it can be awe-inspiring and almost magical. Below, we’ll cover a few of the expert tips & tricks to getting an authentic and natural rockscape swimming pool environment.

Natural Rockscape Pool Designs

Clarity Pool Service delivers rockscape swimming pool designs that will have you stepping into your backyard and instantly being transported into nature (where rockscape pools occur naturally, co’mon). The first trick is to use a naturally occurring or native stone to your local region. The last thing you want people to think is that your rockscape pool looks out-of-place. The whole point is to mimic the real environment that occurs in nature.

Second, you’ll want to make sure to select a stone that also comes in a type of decking medium or natural stone tile. The idea is to install a decking made of the same material you use for the rockscape accents and or waterfall around the pool. Proper use of these materials will make the entire environment feel convincing, aesthetically cohesive, and naturally occurring.

Last, we recommend installing authentic stone accents around the pool rather than a complete rockscape design. We promise it’ll look much classier. Below you’ll find s few Rockscape Color Scheme Infographics for some of the most popular rockscape pool themes. Keep in mind that you’ll want to choose a color scheme that matches your local environments natural color combination. There are exceptions to every design rule though. That’s why you should give one of our professional pool builders here at Clarity Pool Service a call today! We offer free on-site consultations that will help you understand the pool design & construction process.

Natural Rockscape Pool Designs will achieve better results compared to faux stone or artificial rockscape.
