Swimming Pool Pumps & Heaters - Clarity Pool Service of Southern Nevada

by Clarity Pool Service, Las Vegas, Nevada

Clarity Pool Service is a pool builder in Las Vegas, Nevada. With decades of experience building and maintaining swimming pools in Southern Nevada, Clarity Pool Service knows how to get the most from your swimming pool. Now that swimming season is here again, we have a few swimming pool tips and tricks to help you enjoy your pool all season long.

Tennis Balls – Float a tennis ball in your swimming pool to soak up oils and lotions from the surface of your pool water. Oils and lotions leave a sheen/film on the water surface that clings to skin, hair, and swimwear. Keeping a tennis ball floating in your swimming pool will help absorb the oils and sheen from the water surface and prevent it from coating everything that comes out of the pool water.

Baking Soda – Pool supply stores sell products with sodium bicarbonate to increase the alkalinity of pool water, but did you know that sodium bicarbonate is an ingredient in household baking soda? If you find it surprising that baking soda is a substitute for increasing the alkalinity in pool water, you may also be surprised to find out that some pool supply stores sell baking soda cheaper than at a grocery store. It’s worth checking out your local pool store to compare prices. Note, baking soda will cloud pool water when used in excess, so it is best to only make minor alkalinity increases with it.

Bucket – At the start of a day, fill a bucket with water and place it on the steps or slope leading into the pool so that a portion of the bucket is outside of the water. Mark the side of the bucket at the water line. At the end of the day, check and mark the bucket again at the water line. Measure the distance between the two lines to determine how much water was evaporated or lost during the day. Typically, pool water will evaporate about 1/4 ” in a day. In Las Vegas/Southern Nevada, low humidity, bright sun, high temperatures, and the wind blowing across the water surface accelerates water evaporation so that the number could be slightly higher. If you notice a drop over 1″ in a day, repeat the measuring process several more days to verify if the pool is consistently losing that much water. Consistent drops in water level that are over the average can be an indication of a water leak in the pool or filtration/pump system.

**Note – If you have an automatic water leveler for your pool, turn the water off on your test day to ensure accurate measurement.

Solar Pool Cover – Using a solar pool cover(looks like bubble-wrap) on your pool serves three primary functions. The first function is to get and keep your pool temperature warm and comfortable without needing to run a pool water heater. The second function of a pool cover is to keep debris out of your pool which reduces the need to clean and chemically treat your pool water. The third, and in Southern Nevada most importantly, a pool cover will significantly reduce water evaporation. Wind motion over water surfaces accelerates evaporation. Keep a pool cover on when the swimming pool is not in use will not only make your pool water warm and comfortable but will also keep it cleaner and reduce water loss due to evaporation. In a dry area like Southern Nevada, water will evaporate much faster than other parts of the country.

Get Your Pool Ready For Summer

Clarity Pool Service Cleaning & Maintenance Services of Southern Nevada

Clarity Pool Service, Las Vegas, Nevada

Now that temperatures are starting to climb over 90 degrees in Las Vegas, it is a great time to get your swimming pool ready for summer. Thankfully, Southern Nevada has a milder winter season than much of the country. That means many swimming pools are not ‘closed’ the same way as the ones in colder climates and so it takes less work to re-open our swimming pools. Even so, there are essential steps to take when opening your swimming pool for the season. Not performing the proper maintenance at the beginning of the swimming season can be costly, so let us now talk about some of the things needed for proper pool operation.

Water Levels

Check the water level and fill the swimming pool to its average operating level. Before getting started on pool maintenance, always check the water level to ensure that it is filled up to its average operating level. When pool water levels fall near or below the filter intake, water intake may not keep up with the filter system causing air pockets in the filtration system. Air pockets will reduce the effectiveness of the water and filtration system, and dry pumping can cause pumps to overheat, especially when outside temperatures rise above 100 degrees.

Cleaning Debris

Clean up the debris both outside and inside the swimming pool. Winter in Southern Nevada is milder than much of the country; however, winter winds and weather will cause a buildup of dust and debris in and around your swimming pool. Keeping your pool area swept and clean will reduce the need for cleaning every time the winds pick up and reduce the chemicals needed to keep the water balanced and fresh. Having a clean pool area and swimming pool will also help during the inspection process.

Inspect for Damage

Inspect your pool for any leaks or damage. Now that your water level is correct and the debris cleaned up, it’s time to inspect the various parts of your swimming pool and filtration system for wear and tear. Check the swimming pool and deck for signs of cracking, chipping, or broken pieces. Inspect the visible plumbing for signs of leaks, cracks, or breaks. Remove, clean, and check each filter to make sure they are in good shape for the swimming season. Getting your pool ready includes checking the water manifold inside the filter tank where the filters sit/attach and make sure that there are no cracks or breaks. Cracks or broken areas in the water manifold will allow dirty water to bypass the filters and suck contaminated water back into your swimming pool.

Review Pool Water Chemistry

After filling the water lever, cleaning the debris, and checking the pool and filtration system for problems, it is time to review the pool water chemistry with a pool water test kit. Alternatively, you can bring a sample of your pool water to most pool stores and have it checked on site. Most pool stores will make recommendations based on how water tests.

Get Your Pool Ready For Summer

This list details proper water chemistry levels for optimal swimming pool functionality and swimmers comfort:

pH: 7.4 – 7.6
Chlorine: 1.0 – 3.0 ppm
Total Alkalinity: 80 – 140 ppm
Calcium Hardness: 200 – 400
Cyanuric Acid: 25 – 50 ppm
Total Dissolved Solids: 500 – 5000 ppm

Get Your Pool Ready For Summer

There are products which will help keep your pool water chemistry in the balance depending on how your pool water tests. One essential item on that list is the Total Dissolved Solids number. Water molecules absorb contaminants over time, which require more and more chemicals to stay clean and balanced. When the Dissolved Solids measure over 5000 parts per million, Chlorine and other chemicals are not as effective at keeping the water balance safe and comfortable. Over time, dissolved solids will render Chlorine and other chemicals useless, and it will be a struggle to keep algae away and pool water clear.

Traditionally, the only way to bring the Total Dissolved Solids number down to a reasonable level was to drain 3/4 of the water from the swimming pool and then refill. Clarity Pool Service in Las Vegas offers PuriPool reverse-osmosis pool water filtration service, which filters existing pool water to remove dissolved solids and hard water minerals commonly found in Southern Nevada water. PuriPool water treatment not only saves the time and cost of draining and refilling your swimming pool but also keeps maintenance costs down due to fewer minerals and contaminants in the pool water. Cleaner pool water means fewer chemicals and cleaning to stay balanced and safe.

PuriPool™ Water Filtration

Custom Deck Jet Swimming Pool with Blue Lighting

By Clarity Pool Service – Las Vegas, Nevada

The Problem:

Typically in Las Vegas, residential pools are drained and refilled every 3-5 years. There is only ONE reason why this is needed – buildup of dissolved solids in the water which cannot be cleaned with standard pool filtration. Calcium levels lead to mineral scale formations on pool tile, plaster, and equipment. Higher cyanuric acid levels prevent chlorine from effectively doing its job. As a result, high dissolved levels lead to more algae growth, cloudier water, higher demand for chemicals, damage to pool surface and equipment, and even skin discomfort when swimming.

The Solution:

With the PuriPool™ water filtration process, it is possible to remove dissolved solids without having to drain your pool! Most residential pools can be treated from start to finish in a single day. PuriPool™ filtration is especially beneficial for older pools or anyone concerned about potential damage to their pool surface. PuriPool™ is a good choice for time-conscious customers and people who demand the highest quality water. Also for people trying to make an environmentally friendly choice. When compared to a drain and refill, there is no question that PuriPool™ gives you cleaner water in less time.

The Curse of White Mineral Rings

No one likes the look of that ugly white ring on their pool tile. PuriPool treatment will help keep mineral levels under control in your pool. When combined with an understanding of pool water chemistry you could be well on your way to slowing future scale buildup in your pool. It takes work, but it is possible, and Clarity Pool Service in Las Vegas can show you how!

What about plaster and tile cleaning?

Just because we are not draining your pool doesn’t mean that you can’t still have the maintenance performed that typically accompanies a pool water drain. Tile bead blasting is the process of removing scale buildup from your pool tile. Clarity Pool Service can bead blast your pool tile by lowering the water level slightly, while the water goes through our filtration system. That means you’ll have nice clean pool tile AND fewer minerals in your pool water. When followed up with regular PuriPool treatments and proper water chemistry, you may never need another bead blast again!

Acid washing is also a standard procedure done after a pool is drained. It is done to help reduce the appearance of stains on plaster. Because of the PuriPool process, it is now possible to acid wash your pool with the water still in it! Debris and cleaners used during the process are removed by our system, leaving your pool with a brighter surface and cleaner water.

Small/Medium Commercial Pools

Commercial pools are subject to far stricter guidelines than residential pools. Health department oversight and inspections help ensure public health and safety. They require commercial facilities to meet specific guidelines concerning water quality. As a result, commercial pools are typically drained and refilled annually. Think about how many commercial pools there are in Las Vegas. Now imagine ALL of that pool water that is wasted every single year! From a property management perspective, it is something that is required. Imagine how long it takes to refill that water and the downtime when the pool is unavailable for use.

Our PuriPool process is an excellent match for commercial solutions. Not only because of the tremendous water savings it offers, but because it does not result in an interruption of service. Additionally, as with any pool, our process also avoids exposing the pool surface, thus eliminating the risk of unnecessary damage.

Commercial pool operators will also notice that pool water is easier to balance and requires fewer chemicals. This results in financial savings for the facility, and cleaner, more enjoyable water for patrons. It’s a win-win situation!

Large Commercial Pools

For large or high use commercial facilities, we also offer permanent installations of our system. Our system ensures that your water is always the cleanest it can be. Contact us for details and to discuss your specific needs.

In Summary:

With regular use, your pool water accumulates particles that are so small they cannot be filtered or removed. These are called dissolved solids. Dissolved solids can include dirt, bacteria, calcium, other mineral hardness, residual chemicals, as well as human by-products. As more of the solids build up in your water, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain water chemistry. It is difficult to keep pool water clear and to keep algae under control. In turn, you need to use an increased amount of chemicals, which results in higher maintenance costs. It also increases the number of dissolved solids in your pool water. Eventually, the water reaches a point where it is too difficult to maintain and has to be drained and replaced. In commercial and public pools, health codes have specified maximum tolerable levels before a pool is forced to close.

PuriPool™ Solution

The PuriPool process is a custom designed solution specific for pools. It is the only way to remove dissolved solids from your water without draining. There is no need to waste tens of thousands of gallons of water draining your pool to refill it again with tap water. In many cases, we can purify your pool water to a higher quality than the fresh water coming from your hose!

PuriPool not only saves you the expense of renting a pump to drain your pool and the cost of water to refill, but it also reduces the number of chemicals required to maintain your pool, which reduces your maintenance costs. Add that to the fact that you are providing the cleanest water possible for you and your family while at the same time making an environmentally friendly choice!

How to Pick the Right Pool Builder

Clarity Pool Service Swimming Pool Construction

Many Choices…

Pool construction is serious business, especially in Southern Nevada. Because of the materials, equipment, and time needed for building an inground pool, hiring the wrong pool builder can be a costly mistake. People in the market for a Las Vegas pool contractor will quickly find a large number of people and places on their checklists. With so many people in the business of pool construction, finding the right people for the job can be tricky. Thankfully, there are some common things to look for and ask about when interviewing potential pool contractors.

We will now discuss six things people can do to help pick the right pool builder for their inground pool project.

Six Steps to Take

  • 1) Look for a pool builder who has an extensive portfolio of current completed projects to review. Experienced pool builders are typically very excited and proud to show off their hard work. A person or company without an existing portfolio of pool projects should have a good reason for not having a good list of references and referrals.
  • 2) Check local pool contractor websites and review the information available. A reliable pool building company should have plenty of information about the company, products, and services available. These websites often have a gallery of pool shapes and designs for review along with a portfolio of completed pool projects.
  • 3) Ask for referrals from previous customers. Any company that advertises pool construction services should have a list of references from their previous projects. If a company is reluctant to provide referrals from their customers, do not hesitate to walk away. After obtaining a referral list, contact several of them and ask if they would hire the company again without hesitation.
  • 4) Read all the materials provided by a pool contractor and never sign off on contracts and clauses that you do not fully understand. Always get clarification on items when you are not 100% certain. When in doubt, do not sign until you have answers.
  • 5) Ask about follow up service, support, and maintenance from a pool builder. Find out if the company provides any services or support once a project is complete. Buyers should know if a company will be available after construction for any follow-up work that may be needed.
  • 6) Follow your intuition. Does the contractor make you feel confident about their services or do you feel uncertain? Does the pool builder give you a good feeling or does something not feel right? Pay attention to yourself when talking with companies and contractors and go with one that makes you feel confident about their ability to complete your project on schedule and budget.

The Bottom Line

One more thing to remember is that cheaper does not usually equate to quality when it comes to pool construction. Less expensive materials and labor costs can easily cause budgets and operating costs to explode due to many issues. In pool construction, spending a bit more for a pool builder that makes you confident in the project is well worth the cost.

Swimming Pool Bead Blasting – Clarity Pool Service of Las Vegas

Bead Blasting Services Restore the Beauty of You Pool - Clarity Pool Service

Not just another pool company in Las Vegas

Our Bead Blasting Service can remove any unsightly calcium and mineral deposit build-ups that form on your pool surfaces. For optimal results, we combine our Clarity Pool Service Bead Blasting with our PuriPool™ water filtration process. Our PuriPool™ eco-friendly reverse osmosis water treatment will help to reduce any further scale build-up from forming around your swimming pool tile. Clarity Pool Service PuriPool™ water treatment helps to remove calcium and hard-water build-up in your swimming pool to prevent further scale buildup long after the initial bead blasting service has completed.

Our Process

The Clarity Pool Service “Bead Blasting Process” uses compressed air to spray micro-size glass beads at a high velocity. The spray removes calcium scale, hard water deposits, and any other minerals that collect and build-up around your swimming pool water line. The proprietary glass bead is not as hard as a grain of sand (used in traditional abrasive blasting), and therefore less damaging to the surface of your swimming pool during the bead blasting process. The glass beads are collected from the bottom of the pool with a vacuum and dried out for later reuse. The bead blast cleaning guarantees a certain level of cleanliness and restoration to your swimming pool. Calcium scale and hard water deposit build-up are by far one the most common problems in the local Las Vegas area.

Our Most Effective Solution

As our most effective solution to hard mineral build-up, Clarity Pool Service combines our Tile Cleaning with our PuriPool™ reverse-osmosis water filtration service.

Once the tile cleaning is performed, we vacuum the glass beads from the bottom of the pool. Clarity Pool Service then utilizes our mobile reverse-osmosis water treatment process to remove hard minerals and other solids from your pool water. When the process is complete, your pool will need fewer chemicals to stay clean and balanced. It will take much longer before hard mineral build-up returns to your pool surfaces.

How It Works:

  • Clean debris from the pool
  • Clean out the pool filters
  • Bead Blast tile cleaning service on tiles and affected surfaces
  • Vacuum the glass beads for re-use
  • PuriPool™ mobile water filtration to remove minerals and waste solids

The Bottom Line

Clarity Pool Service in Las Vegas, Nevada knows how to keep your pool clean. We can reduce the minerals that build-up along your pool tiles and surfaces. Call us today to schedule your Bead Blasting Tile Cleaning and PuriPool™ water filtration. You will be glad that you did!
