The three types of lighting are as follows. As a quick notation to the following break-down of lighting types, we want to say that LED lighting is by far the preferred choice of custom pool designers. Incandescent

At one point within our history, incandescent lighting was the least expensive option for an inground swimming pool. The incandescent lighting is comparable to the light bulbs used in the old standard light bulb used in homes. Then the introduction of the CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light). The incandescent light source produces a warm, almost golden glow by heating a Tungsten filament (usually Tungsten.) In all actuality, this method produces more heat than actual light. Which makes the use of incandescent lighting all but obsolete. 

Halogen

Halogen lighting was all the rage (like LED’s are now) in the past, and they took the place of incandescent lighting. The reason it took the place of incandescent lighting is due to it using 20% less energy as well as it lasts far longer than it’s predecessor. Like most technologies, there’s often a trade-off for optimizing energy consumption. The halogen light still uses filament technology similar to incandescent. The other drawback to #Halogen is that when it’s filament heated, it casts a visible yellow hue. Halogen lighting also contains Halogen gas, which causes it to heat up to higher temperatures. The final downside is that Halogen lighting costs were nearly double that of the Incandescent light, and they still have a remarkably short lifespan.

The modern standard in all-around general lighting as well as #CustomPoolLighting. The LED light is far brighter, more energy-efficient, and comes in a plethora of beautiful colors. The arrival of LED lighting within the custom pool scene brought the pool designer’s artistic potential to all-new levels (until the next technology gets invented.) While the Incandescent and Halogen used to have a place in swimming pool design, but modern swimming pool design does not. The LED is the standard in modern pool construction. LED’s do not produce excessive amounts of heat, they cast a brighter light, and you don’t have to deal with a yellowish hue in all your lights. Infinity Edge Features

The Infinity Edge pool feature gets its name from the optical illusion it creates. When viewing the Infinity Edge water feature from specific vantage points, it looks as if it’s connecting with the clouds, or even better, when there is a large body of water in front of the effect, it seems like it connects with the water. How the Infinity Edge design gets implemented is what can make or break this excellent feature, and it can be an awe-inspiring effect when done correctly. 

Perimeter-Overflow Feature

The Infinity Edge feature has evolved into variations that are both creative and jaw-dropping. One of those evolved features is the Perimeter-Overflow design. The Perimeter-Overflow is what it sounds like; its a method that custom pool builders use to allow water from a pool or spa to roll over the edge. When the water overflows over all the pool edges, it’s known as a 360-degree vanishing edge (or Perimeter-Overflow). The pool water is always recycled back into the system through catch basins designed to re-circulate the pool water back into the system. So, no water waste, and you get a remarkable water feature that will have you, your family, and your guests gawking.

Tanning Ledge 

If you’re into getting dark during the Summer, you will love this next feature, the Sun Shelf. Also known as the Tanning Ledge.
