What Will Your Custom Swimming Pool Lighting Say About You?

Custom Pool Design Las Vegas, Nevada - Clarity Pool Service Implements Custom Swimming Pool Lighting

Custom Pool Design Las Vegas, Nevada – Clarity Pool Service Implements Custom Swimming Pool Lighting

Custom pool lighting is an essential part of swimming pool design for apparent reasons, the first being to allow for visibility at night. The second, not so apparent reason to light your pool is for aesthetics. aesthetic pool lighting is like the toppings on ice cream. The ice cream is amazing all by itself, but when you add your favorite toppings, it has a way of adding visual complexity to the pool designer’s artistic vision. While standard pool lighting is necessary, aesthetic pool lighting is going to lend toward the creative artistic vision—the experienced custom pool designer combines both these lighting disciplines. The objective is to create a well-lit and safe, yet attractive lighting schema for your custom-designed swimming pool.

Dramatic, Awe-Inspiring, Romantic, Warm & Cozy, and Energetic

When designing and building a custom swimming pool, we have a plethora of modern “tricks of the trade” that can transform your custom pool design into a focal point that elicits real human emotion. From the shape or architecture of the swimming pool and the surrounding environment to the pool lighting. The proper use of lighting is an essential tool within our metaphorical palette (or in this process). So, if you want to create a piece of art that you can swim in, Clarity Pool Service is your custom pool designer!

There’s Only One Real-Efficient Option, the Standard LED!

You have a choice among roughly three main lighting types where it concerns your custom swimming pool design and the lighting schema we implement. We said you have a choice, but it’s always reasonable to listen to the professional pool designers’ recommendations; more often than not, they recommend a particular option for a valid reason. The three types of lighting are as follows. As a quick notation to the following break-down of lighting types, we want to say that LED lighting is by far the preferred choice of custom pool designers. Not only are they energy-efficient, but they also have a plethora of colors and form factors options. Below, we’ve included Incandescent and Halogen for comparison reasons or even a history of pool lighting types.

Incandescent

At one point within our history, incandescent lighting was the least expensive option for an inground swimming pool. The incandescent lighting is comparable to the light bulbs used in the old standard light bulb used in homes. Then the introduction of the CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light). The incandescent light source produces a warm, almost golden glow by heating a Tungsten filament (usually Tungsten.) In all actuality, this method produces more heat than actual light. Which makes the use of incandescent lighting all but obsolete.

Halogen

Halogen lighting was all the rage (like LED’s are now) in the past, and they took the place of incandescent lighting. The reason it took the place of incandescent lighting is due to it using 20% less energy as well as it lasts far longer than it’s predecessor. Like most technologies, there’s often a trade-off for optimizing energy consumption. The halogen light still uses filament technology similar to incandescent. The other drawback to #Halogen is that when it’s filament heated, it casts a visible yellow hue. Halogen lighting also contains Halogen gas, which causes it to heat up to higher temperatures. The final downside is that Halogen lighting costs were nearly double that of the Incandescent light, and they still have a remarkably short lifespan.

LED Lighting (the Modern Standard)

Clarity Pool Service of Southern Nevada - Traditional Swimming Pool LED Lighting

Clarity Pool Service of Southern Nevada – Traditional Swimming Pool LED Lighting

The modern standard in all-around general lighting as well as #CustomPoolLighting. The LED light is far brighter, more energy-efficient, and comes in a plethora of beautiful colors. The arrival of LED lighting within the custom pool scene brought the pool designer’s artistic potential to all-new levels (until the next technology gets invented.) While the Incandescent and Halogen used to have a place in swimming pool design, but modern swimming pool design does not. The LED is the standard in modern pool construction. LED’s do not produce excessive amounts of heat, they cast a brighter light, and you don’t have to deal with a yellowish hue in all your lights. The invention of LED lighting was a revolutionary moment in time, especially within creative lighting applications such as custom swimming pool design.

Thinking of Building a Custom Swimming Pool?

Well here’s the swimming pool features that you’re going to want to consider! It’s amazing how quickly some custom features can elevate a backyard pool from “ehhh” to “ohhhh-yeah.” The truth is, when you construct a pool in the Southern Nevada Valley, we can assure you that it will get plenty of use, especially during the Summer. A case could even be made that a pool is mandatory during our Summer. If you’ve been considering the idea of building a custom pool, you’ll be happy to hear that swimming pools that get designed to their owner’s specifications tend to see much more use than a one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter pool project. With the right planning, design, and water features, a boring pool can transform into your very own stay-cation destination and one that you assisted in planning.

Today, we’re going to touch on just a few of the available options you can choose when building a custom swimming pool with Clarity Pool Service of Las Vegas, Nevada. We want to convey that you have many stylistic and functional design choices when planning your pool project. Here is a thorough break-down of just a few features you might want to consider when building a custom swimming pool with Clarity Pool Service.

The Water-Wall

A water-wall pool feature’s sight and sound can add a sense of calm and relaxation to your outdoor living area environment. When it’s lounge time and your sunbathing, it’s tranquil! A whole spectrum of features become available when we integrate a slightly elevated wall to your project’s design. Whether you need a retaining wall or not, a wall gives us the ability to drop water from it; how we pour the water from the wall will significantly depend on your personal preferences.

Infinity Edge Features

The Infinity Edge pool feature gets its name from the optical illusion it creates. When viewing the Infinity Edge water feature from specific vantage points, it looks as if it’s connecting with the clouds, or even better, when there is a large body of water in front of the effect, it seems like it connects with the water. How the Infinity Edge design gets implemented is what can make or break this excellent feature, and it can be an awe-inspiring effect when done correctly.

Perimeter-Overflow Feature

The Infinity Edge feature has evolved into variations that are both creative and jaw-dropping. One of those evolved features is the Perimeter-Overflow design. The Perimeter-Overflow is what it sounds like; its a method that custom pool builders use to allow water from a pool or spa to roll over the edge. When the water overflows over all the pool edges, it’s known as a 360-degree vanishing edge (or Perimeter-Overflow). The pool water is always recycled back into the system through catch basins designed to re-circulate the pool water back into the system. So, no water waste, and you get a remarkable water feature that will have you, your family, and your guests gawking.

Tanning Ledge

If you’re into getting dark during the Summer, you will love this next feature, the Sun Shelf. Also known as the Tanning Ledge. It is excellent for relaxing in the pool, and out of the pool, at the same time. A sun shelf is a flat, shallow area within your pool. You might have seen one before at some of the casino pools. They usually have special lounge chairs specifically designed to be submerged halfway into the pool. Enabling the lounger to experience being in the pool and lounging in the sun. Which is great for tanning.

Reveal Swimming Pool Walls

To finish up on the swimming pool feature exploration, we have the Reveal Walls. This feature is, by far, the most interesting and modern swimming pool feature. It can also be the most expensive, and that’s due to the engineering involved in planning and building this magnificent effect. When it’s all said and done, though, you’ll have one of the awesome pools in town. So, call Clarity Pool Service today to get more information and schedule an on-site swimming pool design consultation!

When it comes to perfect contrast, there’s nothing like a dark grey slate accent wall to give your pool some modern flair. Some homeowners add walls to their custom swimming pool designs, even when they functionally don’t need them to retain anything—purely aesthetic appeal walls. You’ll find plenty of examples online of homeowners using walls to do some pretty appealing stuff. More often than not, a homeowner won’t just opt to include a retaining wall to improve overall aesthetic appeal. The custom swimming pool designer usually has a design concept that requires an elevated top-level or tier. The higher ground allows many designers to install waterfalls, water walls, scuppers or spouts, sheer descents, and other design options.

Are you in need of a secondary contractor’s opinion? Clarity Pool Service of Las Vegas, Nevada, is a premier pool builder here in town. We want to give you some additional options when it comes to the quote on your custom swimming pool project. The Retention Wall Overview – What is a Retaining Wall

A retaining wall is what its name implies, a wall specially designed to hold back earth and natural rock. Most backyards and outdoor areas where we build in-ground swimming pools are not level (flat). Southern, Nevada land is pretty flat, to begin with, so retaining walls aren’t usually required. As mentioned above, they are, however, pretty common and called for through the pool design. They often get added for specific water or level feature.

Here are some common topics about retention walls for custom swimming pools.

  • Retaining walls get implemented to hold earth (dirt or rock) in place.
  • Some land here in Las Vegas isn’t level, and some have substantial slopes or uneven surfaces that the pool builder has to contend with, and the retaining wall is just one of the tools in our arsenal.

  • The size and areas you’ll need a retaining wall for are dependent on how much earth you need to hold back. An engineer designs the retaining wall plans, and then Clarity Pool Service realizes those plans through construction.
  • Common retaining wall materials are poured-in-place Concrete, cinder blocks, concrete blocks (or reinforced cinder blocks with wet Concrete poured into cavities).
Dry stacked concrete blocks – using the dry concrete blocks to build a segmented wall. The solid dry concrete blocks are designed to lock together. It’s relatively easy to determine the difference between a segmented wall (which uses solid concrete blocks in a staggered pattern), opposed to a reinforced cinderblock wall, or poured in place concrete wall. Cinder block walls are often back-poured with wet Concrete. The cinder blocks are reinforced with steel rebar.
  • You can install stacked stone on the retention wall’s surface as an aesthetic option, or any other material that is appropriate and adheres onto the wall.
Don’t look at a retaining wall as an eyesore. A wall is used in ways that will not only compliment your yard but open up additional options where function and visuals features are concerned.
How the retaining wall gets constructed is determined by the Engineer, and quite possibly the swimming pool contractor.
  • Poured Concrete Walls are arguably more reliable than a Cinder Block wall design. Poured concrete walls have better lateral strength when compared to back-poured cinderblock walls. The stronger the wall, the more pressure it can withstand. A poured wall doesn’t have joints like a block wall, making it the preferred choice of pool contractors.
  • How much does that retention wall cost? Your cost is dependent on the size and scope of the wall. Basically, how tall (depends on how much earth needs gets retained) and the length or span of the wall impacts the overall cost of building a wall. That’s not including any features or decorative materials you want to use to finish the wall.
  • Retaining wall costs can typically range from $7K – $20K (costs associated with the wall are dependent on the choices you make with our Clarity Pool Service design consultant and the Engineer hired to plan & design the retaining wall.)

We hope we helped you understand some in-depth concepts about retaining walls. If you’re interested in learning more about Clarity Pool Service, call today at (702) 839-9265. We would be happy to give you a quote for the custom swimming pool design & construction. Plus, we’ll help you build something memorable and awe-inspiring with that retaining wall.

Learn About the Baja Shelf or Sun Shelf

If your idea of time at the pool includes lounging, relaxing, and soaking up some sun rays, then the Baja Shelf is your feature. The Baja Shelf is also known as a tanning ledge, Tanning Shelf, Baja Ledge, or a sun shelf. The Baja Shelf is an expansive shallow-water step or ledge within your pool that can range anywhere from 3″ – 18″ in-depth, depending on your aesthetic and functional preference. The Tanning Shelf design is good for one thing, and that’s cooling down in shallow depths. This custom swimming pool feature has become extremely popular here in Southern, Nevada. It’s not uncommon for homeowners to designate a few waterproof lounge chairs on the Baja shelf. The lounge chairs rest slightly submerged within the pool that enables you to sunbathe comfortably.

The Baja Shelf is perfect for homeowners that like to max and relax in the sun but enjoy splashing a little water on themselves to cool down. Anyone that has spent a summer here in Las Vegas, Nevada, will tell you that regular cool-downs when at the pool are a must. Features of Modern Swimming Pool Design

Custom Water-Wall Waterfall with dual flanking Water and Fire Bowls

Modern swimming Pool Design and Contracting Services – Clarity Pool Service

Modern Swimming pool design incorporates many different elements to deliver a more enticing and aesthetically pleasing experience over the traditional swimming pool designs of the 1950s and 1960s. Since the first gunite swimming pool was built in 1940, the new swimming pool construction business has evolved into a $32 billion per year global industry. Along with the improvements in the speed for new pool construction, many other aspects of pool design have evolved as well.

When it comes to the approach in design for modern swimming pools, there are two primary types of modern swimming pool design:

Naturalistic: A pool design inspired and influenced by natural surroundings and landscape features. Natural design pools often use freeform shapes, rock gardens, waterfalls, beach type pool entry, and themed landscaping (i.e., tropical, desert, beach, etc.) to create mood and aesthetics. The naturalistic design approach represents a continuation of the surrounding landscape with the pool area.

Architectural: A pool design inspired by structure architecture and design. Rigid lines, angles, and geometric shapes that complement the surrounding architecture without competing with it or appearing out of place. Architectural pool designs appear as part of the original property design rather than as a standalone feature. The ultimate goal is to create a pool area that appears to be designed and built along with the property structure(s). One major goal for this type of pool design is visualizing it as a continuation of the architectural design.

With both types of modern swimming pool designs, the pool area compliments the property. The naturalistic approach focuses on the area’s landscape or theme and serves as a guide to the swimming pool design. The architectural design complements the surrounding building structure(s) and utilizes the critical design elements to guide the pool design.

Modern Swimming Pool Design Features

Now that we’ve clarified the primary styling aspects of modern pool design, we will now discuss some of the design features of a modern swimming pool:

Infinity edge design – Water continually flows over the pool edge creating an effect similar to swimming at the edge of a waterfall. This feature is often used with properties offering amazing views, where the pool water appears to drop off into the surrounding area. It looks easy to get swept over the side, however, the wall extends to just under the water level and prevents anyone from actually going over the edge.

Negative edge design – The water level is even with the pool edge and spills into a catch basin, which runs around the rim of the pool. Similar to the infinity-edge pool style, the exception is the water only spilling into the catch basin rather than a continuous flow of water. With no activity in the water, water appears motionless and well contained.

Knife-edge design – In this pool style, the water level is even with the pool edge and deck, with only a thin slot built along the pool top to catch water, which is pumped back into the swimming pool.

Wet deck pool design – The water, pool edge, and deck surface are at the same level, and water drains back to the pool when splashed over. Gravity brings the water back to the pool rather than a catch and pump system.

Glass/Acrylic pool wall design – This design style is something akin to swimming in a human aquarium. One or more of the pool walls is made of thick glass or acrylic so that swimmers can view the outside world, and the outside world can view the swimmers. This option is one of the more expensive features build options, and prices can range from $16,000 for a 5ft x 3ft glass window to over $100,000 for an entire glass poolside wall.
